TIMELINE
1956
Elvis Presley and rock & roll take over the popular music charts in 1956, with Elvis holding the #1 spot for 25 weeks.
Little Richard, a singer, pianist, songwriter from Macon, Georgia has his first #1 R&B single.
Carl Perkins rockabilly song "Blue Suede Shoes" is the first single to score big on the Country, R&B and Pop charts simultaneously.
The blurring of lines between the Pop and R&B charts continues with a record number of songs by the original artists appearing on both charts.
